Tatum has 20 points, 18 rebounds in loss

Senior Destinie Tatum scored 20 points and pulled down 18 rebounds before fouling out Tuesday, but it wasn't enough to keep the Siuslaw Vikings girls from falling to the Newport Cubs, 47-39, at Glenn Butler Court.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 0-3 on the season. The Cubs are 1-2.

Siuslaw next plays Junction City at 5:15 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the Les Schwab Eagle Booster Winter Classic at Harrisburg High School.

Next home game for the Vikings is Friday, Dec. 16, against Cascade. Tipoff is 6 p.m.

Tatum hit 9 of 17 shots from the field (52.9 percent) and grabbed 17 rebounds on the defensive end. She also fouled out for the third time in three games.

The rest of the Vikings were 5 of 28 from the field (17.9 percent).

Senior Brittany Long had 6 points, hitting the team's lone 3-pointer, and was credited with a team-high 3 assists.
