Joe Dotson earns another All-American nod

Siuslaw graduate Joe Dotson is now a four-time multi-event All-American for the Southern Oregon track and field team.

Friday, Dotson posted personal records in each of Day 2's three events to vault into sixth place in the heptathlon at the NAIA Indoor Championships in Brookings, S.D.

He was one of four SOU athletes earning All-American honors on the day.

Dotson, a senior from Florence, is a three-time All-American for his top finishes in the NAIA Outdoor Championships — fifth place as a freshman, second place as a sophomore and fourth place as a junior.

Dotson finished the two-day event Friday with 4,967 points, some 321 points above his previous personal best.

Levi Sudbeck of Doane was first with a 5,273 total.

Dotson started Friday with a PR in the 60-meter hurdles of 8.78 seconds, followed with a PR in the pole vault of 14 feet, 9.25 inches that was third-best in the field and finished with a PR in the 1,000 meters with a runner-up time of 2:43.99.

His marks Thursday included a PR 7.47 in the 60 meters, a PR 20-8.25 in the long jump, 37-3.5 in the shot put and a PR 5-11.25 in the high jump.
