Rannow, Freudenthal post 4A bests at CCI

Junior Anne Wartnik (center), freshman Rylee Colton (left) and junior Chloe Madden (right) finished 1-2-3 in girls 3,000 for the Vikings.

Siuslaw junior Hannah Rannow posted a 4A state best in the 800 meters and sophomore Gracie Freudenthal a state best in the 300 hurdles Friday among the highlights of the annual Central Coast Invitational track and field meet at Hans Petersen Field.

Rannow, the defending 4A state champion in the 800, won in a personal record 2 minutes, 18.32a seconds. Philomath's Hannah Hernandez was a half second back (2:18.82a) to take the No. 2 spot on the 4A list.

"Hannah Rannow was the highlight (of the meet)," Siuslaw coach Chris Johnson said. "PR, field record, meet record, and a state leading mark in the 800. Brea (Blankenship) and Naomi (Shoji) also had good 800s.

"Gracie had a PR in the 300 hurdles. That was a great race in less than ideal conditions. The prevailing weather at (Hans Petersen Field) is a headwind out of the blocks in the 300H. It was a good field and she won going away. That was a field and meet record too.

"Camp Lacouture is coming along in the pole vault. He is a competitor and it will be fun to watch his progress as the weather improves and we get more time to practice.

"Skyler Loomis had a nice toss in the javelin throw.

"We have an exciting young group."

Freudenthal, who also won the 100 hurdles Friday, ran the 300 hurdles in a PR 46.52a, nearly a full second faster than the No. 2 time in 4A.

Rannow remains No. 3 on the Siuslaw all-time list in the girls 800 and Freudenthal still is No. 2 in the girls 300 hurdles despite the PRs.

Vikings sophomore Skyler Loomis moved to No. 10 on the Siuslaw all-time list for the javelin (IAAF), displacing Mason Keck (2007) with a heave of 160 feet, 5 inches. Loomis is No. 7 in 4A this season.

Loomis placed second to teammate Ryan Rendon-Padilla, who won with a mark of 180-9. Rendon-Padilla holds the school record for the IAAF javelin at 191-7, set April 9 at a Sky-Em League meet at Siuslaw.

Siuslaw junior Anne Wartnik, freshman Rylee Colton and junior Chloe Madden went 1-2-3 in the girls 3,000 Friday.

Johnson noted there were seven meet records — girls 100, 200, 800 and 300 hurdles, 4x400 and boys 100 and 200. All but the boys 100 were field records as well.

Among other top marks:

  • Sophomore Ryan Jennings was second in the 400 in a PR 54.52a and placed third in the 300 hurdles in 43.47a.
  • Sophomore Andrea Osborn was second in the girls shot put at 35-2.
  • Senior Madison Reynolds was third in the girls shot put at 32-6.
  • Sophomore Brea Blankenship was third in the girls 800 with a PR 2:23.88a.
  • Senior Naomi Shoji was fifth in the girls 800 with a PR 2:33.03a.
  • Freshman Camp Lacouture was fifth in the boys pole vault with a PR 11-6.
  • The Siuslaw 4x400 girls relay team of Brea Blankenship, Gracie Freudenthal, Anne Wartnik and Hannah Rannow finished second in 4:20.26a.
