Hannah Rannow turns in another top time

Siuslaw junior Hannah Rannow ran the second-fastest girls 1,500 meters in school history Sunday at the Portland Track Festival High Performance Meet at Lewis and Clark College.

Rannow finished in 4 minutes, 44.36a seconds to place 12th in an elite field of 16 in the women's open. Simone Plourde of Saint-Laurent Select of Montreal won in 4:29.11a.

Raelyn Robinson set the Siuslaw standard of 4:42.62a at the Jesuit Twilight Relays on May 7, 2010. Robinson later that season won the state 4A title in 4:47.46a.

Robinson will be inducted into the Siuslaw Athletic Hall of Fame in August.

Rannow's previous personal record in the 1,500 was 4:50.75a, which she ran May 3 in winning the Wally Ciochetti Invitational in Cottage Grove.

Rannow's run Sunday capped a remarkable junior year that included winning Coast Radio's Female Athlete of the Year Award this past Thursday.

Among her accomplishments this past school year:

  • Won the girls 4A state title in the 3,000 in a PR 10:14.30a, which is second on the school list to Katy Potter (10:09.22a in 2013).
  • Finished second in the girls 4A state 800 in 2:21.43a, a season after winning the event. She ran a PR 2:18.32a at the Central Coast Invitational, third-fastest in school history to Destinie Tatum (2:17.62a in 2016) and Robinson (2:18.23a in 2009).
  • Finished second in the Prefontaine Rotary Invitational girls mile in a PR and school-record 5:13.44a. She had set the school standard of 5:25.55a in the same meet in 2018.
  • Ran a leg of the the girls 4x400 relay team that placed second in district and fourth in state.
  • Ran a PR 1:03.45a in the 400 for a victory in a four-school meet April 16 at Siuslaw.
  • Finished third in the district cross country championships with a PR of 18:33.2a for 5,000 meters and fourth in the 4A state championships in 19:02.0a, leading the Lady Vikings to second place in both events.
