Jesse Schutte takes mulligan on induction

Jesse Schutte, three-time 3A state golf champion from Florence

Jesse Schutte is the second former Siuslaw Vikings standout who has asked to delay his induction into the Siuslaw Hall of Fame.

Schutte led the Vikings to the 2005 Class 3A state golf title and won individual state titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006. His senior season (2006) he won by 13 strokes.

"Jesse Schutte is going to defer his induction to the HOF until 2020," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson said. "He has a pro tourney the weekend of the 2019 induction but he thinks he can make it work in 2020.

"Last year he was in Asia for the entire year traveling and playing on the Asian Tour. He is playing some events on the Dakotas Tour this summer. He is playing the Pro-Am Jam in Sioux Falls, SD during the HOF weekend. He is living in Scottsdale, AZ."

Vikings basketball standout Ben Voogd, the Vikings' all-time leading scorer also has a scheduling conflict and will be inducted in 2020.

This year's list of inductees also includes Caley Nordahl, Scott Parker, Bruce Plaep, Raelyn Robinson and Andy Rodet, as well as the girls 4x100 relay team that won state titles in 1996 and 1997, the boys state 4x100 champions of 1996 and the boys 4x400 champions of 1997.

The induction banquet is 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Florence Events Center. Tickets are $25.
