More records fall in Siuslaw's big win Friday

Sophomore Braydon Thornton is helping the Vikings rewrite the Siuslaw football record book

Friday's Siuslaw football victory over Harrisburg was another assault on the Vikings record book.

For starters, the Vikings totaled 673 yards in offense, breaking the record of 639 established during a 56-32 win over La Pine in 2003, according to school sports historian Don Hunt.

Junior quarterback Elijah Blankenship passed for 339 yards and sophomore Braydon Thornton had 307 receiving yards in Siuslaw's 64-8 dismantling of Harrisburg.

The two combined for four scoring passes.

"Thornton now has the greatest receiving game by far in Siuslaw history," Vikings coach Sam Johnson said. Lacouture has now rushed for more than 100 yards in four of five Vikings games this season.

"Blankenship broke the record again for yards in a game."

That overshadowed another great effort by sophomore running back Camp Lacouture, who rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns.

"Lacouture continues to show his dominance with another 100-yard rushing game," Johnson said.

The Vikings' point total was the third-most in Siuslaw's long history, according Hunt.

The Vikings scored 68 in a 68-28 victory over Douglas in 2013 and 66 in a 66-14 win over Mapleton in 1968. The only other time the Vikings scored 60 or more points was in a 60-0 victory over Waldport in 1963.

Thornton's 307 yards broke the previous best of 201 by Everett May in 1968 in a 51-28 loss to eventual state champion Bandon.

Jared Kreil had 184 yards against La Pine in 2004, Trent Reavis 176 against Elmira in 2016 and Kreil 152 against Elmira in 2004.

Hunt says the school record for receptions in a game was 10 entering this season. Thornton had 14 against Newport and 13 against Harrisburg.

Thornton's four TD catches tied Collin Cram-Watkins's single-game mark set in a 48-38 loss to Marist in 2003.

Blankenship broke his own record for yards in a single game. He threw for 337 against Newport and 318 against Philomath, and now owns the top three single-game totals.

For the season, Blankenship is 76 of 114 for 1,285 yards and 10 TDS, Thornton has 46 catches for 870 yards and 10 TDs and Lacouture has 83 carries for 685 yards and 9 TDs.
