Spring youth soccer registration underway

Changes are afoot in the Siuslaw Youth Soccer Association, which has opened registration for the 2020 spring season.

Sign up at the SYSA website, siuslawsoccer.com, and follow the links. Fee is $55 through Feb. 24, $75 from Feb. 25-March 1.

Practices begin late March and first matches are April 11. The last games are May 30 and June 6, with end-of-season tournaments for U10 and U12.

The SYSA will be using a new online platform, Sports Connect, the new website owner, to register players and volunteers.

"The most noticeable changes are when registering as a volunteer," the SYSA announced on its Facebook page. "You will need to upload your completed Safe Spot certificate."

Additionally, there is a processing fee of $3 for each registration order.

"Be sure to register all of your kids at the same time to avoid paying that $3 more than once," the SYSA noted.

The SYSA primarily serves players in elementary and middle school. It deemphasized its program for high school players when Siuslaw High School added the sport in fall 2018.

"We are going to offer spring recreation soccer for high-school age players," SYSA president Cameron Jagoe said. "They will play the CCYS (Coos County Youth Soccer) club. More details as I know them."

The current SYSA board includes Jagoe; Erin Linton, vice president; Londi Tomaro, treasurer and referee coordinator; Tammy McKenzie, secretary, and Daisy Erwin, registrar.

Also on the board are Nyra Vanduch, head coach; AJ Edman, cummunication coordinator; Tim and Melissa Moffet, parent-player liaisons for Mapleton, and members-at-large Justin Linton and Nikki Harklerode.

Positions are open for fund-raising, equipment and field coordinators.
