Marist Catholic beats Lady Vikings, 44-36

Siuslaw junior Gracie Freudenthal had 15 rebounds Friday at Marist Catholic

Marist Catholic gave up an early basket then went on an 11-0 run and held on to beat the visiting Siuslaw Vikings, 44-36, in Sky-Em League girls basketball Friday.

The Lady Vikings, 0-7 in league and 1-20 overall, have three games remaining, including road games Tuesday at Marshfield and Friday at Elmira.

Siuslaw closes its season against Junction City at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, on senior recognition night at Glenn Butler Court.

Marist improved to 6-1 and 11–7.

Siuslaw senior Mia Collins had a game-high 14 points to go with 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Senior Lindsey Long added 8 points and junior Gracie Freudenthal had 15 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Malia Williams led the Lady Spartans with 11 points.

Siuslaw outscored Marist Catholic 5-1 to close the first quarter down 12-7. The Lady Vikings trailed only by 4 at halftime, 23-19.

Siuslaw scored the first basket of the second half to trail by 2, 23-21, but Marist Catholic closed the quarter on a 15-6 run for a 38-27 lead.

The Lady Vikings never were closer than 8 points in the fourth quarter.

In other Sky-Em League games Friday, first-place Cottage Grove (7-0, 16-5) rolled Marshfield (2-5, 7-14), 48-21, and Elmira (1-5, 3-16) at Junction City (4-2, 10-10).
