Vikings plan first practice for Wednesday

Sam Johnson's second year as head coach gets underway in earnest Wednesday, July 1, with strength and conditioning workouts.

Siuslaw Vikings football players will begin voluntary strength and conditioning workouts Wednesday at the high school, it was announced today.

"We will be doing it with a well thought out plan that keeps our coaches and players safe," it was announced on Facebook. "We have extended our practices time to better facilitate safe environments for our players. Your athlete will be lifting weights, conditioning, and learning the techniques and fundamentals to play Siuslaw Football.

"Practices times will be from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. every weekday morning. Students need to RIDE alone to practice. Carpooling cannot be something we do this year due to the fact of spreading diseases.

"Practice is two hours long but the reason for that is that we will be spending around 30 total minutes cleaning everything. So your athlete will be working out for 1.5 hours just like last summer.

"To be able to practice. athletes and parents need to sign a waiver that will be available at every morning practice. If you message us your email we will email you the waiver as well.

"PLEASE REMEMBER THESE ARE VOLUNTARY.

"MEET AT THE WEIGHT ROOM. Bring your own water bottle and towel if you have one. Bathrooms will not be open. Our full sanitation plan will be posted early next week. Cleats and tennis shoes required. Masks are recommended but not required."

Workout days are July 1-3, 6-10, 13-17, 20-24 and 27-31, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

No decision has been made on fall sports.

First fall practice is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17.
