The Junction City Tigers pushed across the winning run in the top of the fifth Tuesday and held on for a 6-5 victory over the Siuslaw Vikings in Sky-Em League softball play at the Siuslaw High School field.

The Lady Vikings, 0-7, host Cottage Grove in a twin bill Friday, starting at 3 p.m.

"The athletes continue to improve in a wide variety of softball skills," Siuslaw coach Sean O'Mara said. "They are gaining valuable experience to take into the second half of league play that starts on Friday."

The Lady Vikings outhit the Lady Tigers 13-6, with junior shortstop Bailey Overton leading the way, going 3-for-5 with a home run, double and 3 runs.

"Bailey is really starting to see the ball well, and continues to be a staple part of the Viking offense," O'Mara said.

Seniors Liz Garcia-Galvan and Hayden Muller had two hits each, with Garcia-Galvan driving in 2 runs and Muller scoring a run.

On defense, freshman Meika Shappell turned a double play and Muller had two put outs in centerfield.

Siuslaw freshman pitcher Cate Waggoner struck out four and walked five in the game.

The Lady Vikings committed seven errors, to four by the Lady Tigers.
