Elmira completes season sweep of Siuslaw

The Elmira Falcons plated six runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 12-7 victory over the visiting Siuslaw Vikings in Sky-Em League baseball Tuesday.

Earlier, Elmira held off Siuslaw 16-13 in the completion of a game suspended due to darkness in Florence on April 16.

"I am really proud of the effort given by the team today," Suslaw coach Tom Shinn said of the completion of the suspended game.

"It was a weird circumstance to have to finish up this game. Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit."

Elijah Blankenship was 2-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBIs, with a triple and 2 stolen bases; Jason Garcia 2-for-5 with 2 runs and a stolen base; Dalton Stinger 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs; Beau Erickson 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs, a run and a triple; Henry Rankin 2-for-5 and Clay Kramer scored 3 runs and stole a base.

In Tuesday's scheduled game, Elmira junior Troy Anderson got the win, hurling four 4 innings of scorelss 1-hit ball before tiring in the fifth. Leadoff hitter Hunter Stockinger was 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and Cobyn Hunter clubbed a 2-run home run.

For the Vikings, Erickson was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs and a run scored.

"While the total number of hits for this game is low, we put the ball in play several times with well hit balls that found their ways into Elmira gloves," Shinn said.

"The big inning hurt us again, but the resiliency of the team shown through in pushing the game to seven innings."

Siuslaw, 1-9 in league and overall, plays a doubleheader Friday at Marshfield.

This coming Tuesday is senior night at Jiggs Dodson Stadium, the Vikings hosting Marist. First pitch is 5 p.m., preceded by a celebration of the seniors.

Elmira improved to 6-4 overall and league.
