Jason Lipe named Vikings softball coach

The Siuslaw Vikings softball team has a new head coach.

"Siuslaw High School is excited to announce that Jason Lipe has accepted the varsity softball head coaching position," Siuslaw athletic director Chris Johnson wrote in a media release Thursday.

"Lipe has a masters degree in teaching, along with 14 years teaching experience in science and biology," Johnson wrote.

"Lipe has been at Siuslaw High School for two years. He coached one year of varsity softballl and one year of varsity baseball at Oakridge High School.

"He also played baseball at the college level."

Lipe replaces veteran coach Sean O'Mara, who retired from teaching last spring and relinquished coaching duties last fall.

The Lady Vikings were 1-14 last spring in a covid-truncated season.

Siuslaw lost just three players to graduation and returns several starters, including all-state shortstop Bailey Overton and all-league centerfielder Hayden Muller.
