South Coast wins state title, 17-2 and 38-0


The South Coast Babe Ruth age-14 all-star baseball team is headed to the Pacific Northwest regional championships.

Saturday, the South Coast team, which includes five Siuslaw players and a Florence coaching staff, captured the state title with a sweep of the Upper Rogue all-stars at Roseburg, 17-2 and 38-0, winning the best-of-three event 2 games to none.

South Coast advances to the regionals July 24-29 at Ferndale, WA, where it will compete with nine other teams for the right to play in the national championships later this summer in Williston, N.D.

Other regional opponents represent Washington, Montana, Idaho and Canada.

Siuslaw players on the team include Collin Barnett, Micah Blankenship, Jacob Mann, Zak Nilles and Jordan Pitcher.

The team is coached by Mike Blankenship, John Pitcher, Elijah Blankenship and Michael Pitcher.

South Coast Babe Ruth serves Florence, Coos Bay, North Bend, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Reedsport and Bandon.
