Siuslaw sweeps Lady Bruins in Brookings


The Siuslaw Vikings girls volleyball team swept the Brookings-Harbor Lady Bruins as all three Far West League visiting teams returned home with 3-0 victories.

Siuslaw won by scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-9 to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Far West League. The Vikings are ranked No. 12 by the Oregon School Activities Association.

Claire Waggoner had 13 points on serve and was 100 percent on serving for the night, Elyssa Rose had 15 kills and a block and Hannah Bartlett had 21 assists and 4 aces.

Brookings-Harbor, which snapped a 39-match losing streak Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Rogue River, is 1-10 and 0-3.

Unbeaten Marshfield, ranked No. 3 among 4A schools by the OSAA, swept North Bend at North Bend, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22, to improve to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in league. North Bend is 4-6 and 1-2.

South Umpqua (3-4, 2-1) swept Douglas (3-4, 1-2) at Winston, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21.

The Vikings' week of long road trips continues Thursday with a match with Douglas in Winston.

Saturday, Siuslaw travels to Grants Pass for a match with Hidden Valley at noon and a match with Cottage Grove at 1:30 p.m.

The trips to Brookings-Harbor and Hidden Valley are each more than three hours one way. Winston is more than two hours one way.

In other matches Thursday, South Umpqua is at Marshfield and Brookings-Harbor at North Bend.

Siuslaw opened league play with a 3-1 win at South Umpqua and a 3-1 loss at home to Marshfield.
