Hidden Valley tops Siuslaw at Philomath


Senior Sierra Potter and junior Destinie Tatum scored 16 points each Wednesday as the Siuslaw girls basketball team lost to Hidden Valley, 55-38, in a nonleague game at Philomath.

The Vikings fell to 1-6 for the season, while the Mustangs improved to 5-4.

Potter hit four 3-pointers and Tatum had a team-high 11 rebounds for Siuslaw. Tatum also hit the only three free throws attempted by Siuslaw.

Tatum was named Coast Radio's Athlete of the Week on Tuesday in honor of her 19-point, 20-rebound effort against Cottage Grove. Teammate Taylor Dotson was honorable mention.

The Vikings are off until Tuesday, Jan. 5, when they play at Elmira.

Siuslaw also has a Sky-West Crossover game scheduled for Jan. 8 at Phoenix.

The Vikings open Far West League play Friday, Jan. 15, at South Umpqua.

Siuslaw's home league opener is Tuesday, Jan. 19, against Marshfield.
