For the Vikings, the only way to go is up


The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team will enter 2016 as the only winless Class 4A team in the state.

Estacada (1-6) broke into the win column Tuesday with a 43-30 victory at Douglas.

Siuslaw stands 0-7 and rated at the bottom of the Oregon School Activities Association ratings at No. 40.

The Vikings have been outscored 400-249 in those seven games, an average of 57.1 to 35.6.

Siuslaw's next game is 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Elmira.

The Vikings are one of 10 schools entered in the Sky-West Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 8-9, at Phoenix High School.

Five of the six Far West League schools are entered, including Siuslaw, Douglas, Marshfield, Brookings-Harbor and North Bend.

The five Skyline League teams entered include Phoenix, Henley, Klamath Union, Mazama and Hidden Valley.

Pairings for the crossover tournament have yet to be announced.

The Vikings open league play on Friday, Jan. 15, at South Umpqua in Myrtle Creek.

Siuslaw's home league opener is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, against Marshfield.
