Tuesday was Senior Night for the Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team, and first-year coach Will Biggs put every one he had in the starting lineup.

Scott Gordon joined the usual starters Preston Mitchell, Reese Siegel and Kenneth Thrall for a final dance around Glen Butler Court.

It didn't really matter that they played to the same tune, the Vikings dropping a 42-39 decision in overtime to the Douglas Trojans.

"These kids, they're winners in just so many ways," Biggs said. "Unfortunately, it's just not showing up on the scoreboard."

The loss left Siuslaw 1-20 overall and 1-8 in the Far West League heading into Friday's season finale at North Bend.

Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.

"These kids, what we've been through is really, really hard," Biggs said. "Nobody's quit. Nobody's given up. Nobody's bitching about playing time.

"They are tremendous kids. For whatever reason, we just can't seem to catch a break."

Tuesday appeared to be a golden opportunity for Siuslaw. Playing before their own raucous fans, the Vikings were playing the only team they had beaten this year (47-45 on Jan. 26 in Winston).

And it was anyone's game throughout, a 2-point game after one quarter, tied at the half, a 2-point game after three quarters, and tied after regulation.

It was anyone's game in overtime. But there was to be no senior moment of glory in those five extra minutes.

All four Vikings points in overtime were scored by sophomore center Trent Reavis, who had a pair of putbacks to finish with a game-high 18 points.

Meanwhile, sophomore guard Quinden Parson — who had a team-high 17 points — made 5 of 6 free throws and junior wing Chad Barnhart hit a jumper just inside the 3-point arc to help Douglas secure the victory.

Siegel joined Reavis in double figures for the Vikings with 10 points, aggressively attacking the basket to either score or draw a foul.

Mitchell added 6 points, closing both the half and the third quarter with buzzer-beater scores. He also had a number of fine assists.

"There's a lot of pressure on Preston to play well," Biggs said. "If he doesn't play well, we don't have much of a chance to be competitive. When he does, we have a chance to be close.

"So it's a lot of responsibility, a lot of pressure on that poor kid, and he's held up pretty doggone well."

Bottom line, another loss for a team with one last chance — Friday at North Bend — for a second win.

"The effort has been good," Biggs said. "The results have been tough."
