Basketball: North Bend holds off Siuslaw, 45-39


The North Bend Bulldogs outscored the visiting Siuslaw Vikings 17-8 at the free-throw line Friday to secure a 45-39 victory in the Far West League boys basketball regular-season finale.

North Bend claimed sole possession of second place with a 7-3 league record. The Bulldogs are 9-11 overall.

Siuslaw finished its season 1-9 in league and 1-21 overall.

Sophomore center Trent Reavis had a game-high 15 points for the Vikings, while senior point guard Preston Mitchell had 9.

Senior wing Luke Lucero led the Bulldogs with 12 points, while junior wing Garrett Curtis had all 9 of his points in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer with 4:59 to play that put North Bend ahead to stay, 33-31.

Siuslaw was 8-of-12 from the free-throw line, North Bend 17-of-29.

The Vikings led after the first quarter 9-5, trailed at halftime 18-17 and were tied after three quarters, 27-27.

North Bend outscored Siuslaw 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Elsewhere, Cody Gray hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift South Umpqua to a 50-48 victory at Brookings-Harbor.

League champion Marshfield defeated Douglas at Winston, 64-40, to finish 10-0 and 22-2.
