Wrestling: Vikings' Jennings seeded No. 1 at state


Siuslaw senior Dylan Jennings has been seeded No. 1 at 220 pounds for the 4A state wrestling championships Friday and Saturday in Portland.

Jennings is one of four Vikings who qualified for state last weekend at the 4A Special District 3 regional tournament at Henley High School in Klamath Falls.

Jennings' first opponent is Astoria senior Bronson Holthusen, who is unseeded.

Also competing for Siuslaw are:

  • Sophomore Richard Huff, third at regionals, unseeded in state at 113. His first match is against Baker junior Jace Hays, the No. 3 seed.
  • Freshman Murray Bingham, fourth at regionals, unseeded in state at 126. His first match is against Tillamook senior Justin Coon, the No. 4 seed.
  • Senior Talamoa Tupua, second at regionals, seeded No. 6 at 152. His first match is against Elmira senior Mason Walker, who is unseeded.

The Oregon School Athletic Association event will be held at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 300 North Winning Way.

Doors open Friday at 8:30 a.m., and Session 1 competition is 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on 12 mats.

There are two sessions Saturday, with Session 2 competition 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (doors open at 8:30 a.m.) and Session 3 championship competition 6:30 to 10 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.).
