Basketball: Destinie Tatum named Vikings' MVP

Junior Destinie Tatum has been named most valuable player for the Siuslaw Vikings' 2015-16 girls basketball team.

Tatum led the Vikings in scoring with 235 points, rebounds with 223 and assists with 27, playing 21 of the team's 22 games.

Tatum and senior point guard Sierra Potter were invited to play in the South Coast All-Star Game on March 13 at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay.

Potter led the Vikings in 3-point goals with 32 and steals with 68.

Siuslaw finished its season 5-17 overall and 1-9 in the Far West League under first-year coach Clint Tatum, Destinie's father.

"I believe the girls not only got better and learned a lot, but they also learned some valuable life lessons along the way," Clint Tatum said.

"My first year at Siuslaw as head coach is a season I will never forget. I cannot wait for summer league to begin."

The Vikings lose three players to graduation, starters Potter and center Taylor Dotson and reserve Anna Minten, an exchange student from Belgium.
