Vikings' Reavis captures district discus title

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Trent Reavis

Siuslaw's Trent Reavis won the discus title and teammates Murray Bingham, Jack Pickell and Isaac Griffes went 2-3-6 in the 3,000-meter final Friday as the Vikings stood third after the first day of the Far West League district track and field championships at Douglas High School in Winston.

Reavis won with a throw of 138-8, well below his personal-record 149-9 but good enough to punch a ticket to next week's state 4A championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Bingham lost by a 10th of a second to North Bend's Michael Brown, who was first in 9 minutes, 8.51 seconds. Bingham ran 9:08.61 for second, Pickell 9:35.15 for third and Griffes 10:02.43 for sixth.

In qualifying, Siuslaw's Tyler Williams advanced to Saturday's finals of the 400 meters and Pickell made the finals at 800 meters.

Marshfield's Hunter Drops won the pole vault at 15-6. The Vikings' Ricky Huff was ninth at 9-6, matching his personal record.

North Bend's Drae Stark won the long jump at 20-9. The Vikings' Ryan Lee was 15th at 14-6.

With Friday's four finals in the books, North Bend has the team lead with 55 points. Marshfield is second with 39 and Siuslaw third with 27. Douglas has 17, South Umpqua 14 and Brookings-Harbor 4.
