Siuslaw promotes Jamin Pool to head coach

Jamin Pool has been named head football coach at Siuslaw High School, succeeding Tim Dodson.

"Please join me in congratulating Jamin Pool as our next football coach," Siuslaw principal Kerri Tatum said in a news release Wednesday.

"Jamin's relationships, work ethic and high expectations of himself, other staff and his student-athletes won him the job.

"I hope Jamin will have as much success as Tim Dodson has had over the years."

Dodson is retiring this year as a physical education teacher at Siuslaw. He was 152-58 in 20 seasons as head coach of the Vikings.

Pool, who teaches physical education and health at the high school, served as an assistant coach under Dodson and as assistant basketball coach under Will Biggs this past school year.

Pool came to Florence after five years as an assistant at his alma mater (South Albany) and a year as an assistant coach at Lebanon.

"My brother married into a family from here, so I learned a lot about Florence before I actually got here," Pool told ExplodingWhaleSports.com last fall. "I fell in love with the community right away."

Pool also expressed his appreciation for Vikings tradition at the time.

"It's a special tradition you don't come by often," he said. "It was nice to come in and see a culture that's already built, to kind of take in a community that just supports (the team) like crazy."

Returning seniors-to-be include Cade Clawson, Brogan Cornish, Justin Perkins, Nick Steinman, Michael Larson, Marcos Reyna, Robert Fleming and Kainan Lane.
