Oliver 3rd in state shot put with PR 39-10


Siuslaw Vikings junior Carissa Oliver finished third Saturday in the girls shot put finals at the Oregon School Activities Association 4A track and field championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Oliver heaved the shot a personal-record 39 feet, 10 inches, some 7 inches better than the 39-3 she logged in winning the Far West League district title a week earlier.

Molalla junior Rachel Bring won at 42-0.75, with Astoria junior Skadi Freyr second at 40-3.25.

Oliver was scheduled to compete in the girls discus later Saturday.
