Siuslaw girls 2nd, boys 12th at state meet


Senior Mikaela Siegel and junior Destinie Tatum captured individual titles Saturday to lead the Siuslaw Vikings girls to a second-place finish in the the Oregon School Activities Association 4A track and field championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Astoria won the girls title with 109.5 points, with Siuslaw second with 72 and Marshfield third with 63.5.

Siegel repeated as the 4A girls 100-meter hurdles champion, running a 15.61a, the best time among 4A girls this season. She ran a personal-record and school-record 15.50a in winning the 4A 100 hurdles title last year.

Siegel later added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump at 33 feet, 8.5 inches. She was seventh in the long jump Friday.

Tatum captured the 800 meters in a personal-record and school-record 2 minutes, 17.62a seconds. She also had an eighth-place finish in the high jump at 5-0, and anchored the Vikings' 4x400 relay team, which was sixth in 4:12.60a.

Junior Carissa Oliver finished third in the shot put with a personal-record 39-10 and was fourth in the discus at 117-3.

Junior Annmarie Precht was a major contributor, posting personals records to finish fourth in the 200 in 26.30a and fifth in the 100 in 12.79a. She also ran a leg in the 4x400 relay. Friday she was fourth in the long jump at 16-10.

Juniors Morgan Bingham and Celie Mans finished fifth and seventh in the 1,500-meter finals Saturday, Bingham logging a personal-record 4:49.05 and Mans running a 4:50.97a. Friday, Mans was third and Bingham fourth in the 3,000, logging the second and third best times in school history at the distance.

On the boys side, freshman Murray Bingham was fourth Saturday in the boys 1,500 in 4 minutes, 13.99a seconds. He also was fourth in the 3,000 that was run Friday.

Sophomore Trent Reavis was third in the shot put at 50-0.25 and fifth in the discus at 138-2 on Friday.

Siuslaw's boys finished tied for 12th in the team standings with 20 points. Henley won with 83.5, followed by Newport with 59.5, Tillamook with 47 and North Bend with 44.5.
