Siuslaw graduate Dylan Perry is returning to the Vikings as head boys basketball coach for the 2016-17 season, according to school principal Kerri Tatum.

Perry, 31, class of 2003, served as an assistant coach under Jack Butler, and guided the Vikings junior varsity team.

Perry succeeds Will Biggs, a former college coach who served as head coach this past season. Biggs succeeded Butler prior to the start of the 2015-16 season.

Perry played for the Vikings his junior and senior years. Siuslaw advanced to the state tournament both seasons, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.

Perry did not play collegiately until his senior year, 2008-09, when he led Northwest Christian in scoring and rebounding while starting only two of 31 games.

The Vikings were 1-21 last season, 1-9 in league, despite a stout defense and a disciplined offense.

Siuslaw loses four players to graduation, including starters Preston Mitchell, Kenneth Thrall and Reese Siegel and reserve Scott Gordon.

Perry will build around juniors-to-be Trent Reavis, a 6-7 post, and 6-foot forward Jared Brandt, both returning starters.

Senior-to-be Brogan Cornish and junior-to-be Jakob Hickson also should be key components of next season's team.
