Siuslaw senior Celie Mans dominated the girls varsity 1A/2A/3A/4A division of the Northwest Classic cross country meet Saturday at Lane Community College in Eugene.

Mans, running her third 5,000-meter event in eight days, won in 19 minutes, 9.3 seconds. Kara Putnam of Tillamook was second among 76 runners in 20:46.6.

"Celie Mans stole the show," Siuslaw coach Chris Johnson said. "She ran a great early season time for the Lane course with, literally, no competition."

The Lane course is the same that Mans will run in November when she defends her Class 4A state cross country title. Mans has the best 4A time this season by more than 40 seconds with her 18:36 at the North Bend Tugman Invitational.

The Siuslaw girls were fourth in their division with 137 points. Tillamook easily won with 32.

Sophomore Kaeli Ramos, running her first race of the season, was second best among the Vikings and 27th overall in 23:54.8. Senior Destinie Tatum was 36th in 24:26.3, freshman Anne Wartnik 37th in 24:29.5 and freshman Hannah Rannow 45th in 24:53.4.

On the boys varsity side, Siuslaw was third among 12 schools, led by junior Isaac Griffes' 14th-place finish in 17:47.1. Senior Jack Pickell was 21st in 18:05.9.

Three freshmen went 3-4-5 for the Vikings, Brendon Jensen 22nd in a personal-record 18:21.8, Kiger Johnson 24th in 18:28.7 and Jonah Jarman 31st in 18:55.7.

"Brendon Jensen and Jonah Jarman had big breakthroughs," Johnson said. "To get third place with three freshmen in the top five for us is very promising."

Phoenix won with 63, followed by Tillamook with 68, Siuslaw with 95 and Elmira with 117.

In the middle school races, both the Siuslaw boys and girls teams finished fifth place in their divisions.

Among the girls, eighth-grader Brea Blankenship was ninth in 13:24.0 for the 3,000-meter event, with seventh-grader Rylee Colton 19th in 13:29.1.

Top Vikings middle school boys were Elijah Blankenship, 21st with a personal-record 12:48.5, and fellow eighth-grader Elijah LaCross 31st with a PR 13:20.5.

Next for the Vikings is Siuslaw's annual Woahink Lake Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Honeyman State Park.
