Vikings head to No. 4 Marshfield on Friday

The Siuslaw Vikings football team continues its long slog this coming Friday at No. 4-ranked Marshfield, needing to win at least two of their final three games for any hope of reaching the postseason.

Siuslaw fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Far West League on Friday following a 63-26 loss to the visiting No. 1-ranked North Bend Bulldogs at Hans Petersen Field.

Meanshile, Marshfield rolled to a 53-13 halftime lead on its way to a 74-13 victory over Douglas, while South Umpqua rolled at Brookings-Harbor, 34-6.

The Vikings finish their season with games at Marshfield and South Umpqua and a homecoming-senior recognition game on Oct. 21 at Hans Petersen Field.

Vikings junior quarterback Jared Brandt, who missed the previous game with an injury, threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns — to Trent Reavis, Quincy Rusk and Brogan Cornish.

Friday night started out promising for the Vikings, who took the opening drive of the game 65 yards for a score, Brandt connecting with Reavis from 28 yards out on 4th-and-22.

But the Bulldogs countered with three touchdowns in a three-and-a-half-minute span to close the first quarter up 21-6.

The Vikings appeared to make a game of it with a 70-yard drive for a score, Brandt hitting Rusk for a 31-yard TD on 4th-and-3 at 10:25 of the second quarter.

North Bend then rattled off four more touchdowns before halftime for a 49-12 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs scored on their first two possessions of the second half for a 63-12 lead, and the clock was put on running time.

Siuslaw put two more TDs on the board, the first on a 1-yard run by Rusk with 55 seconds left in the third quarter and the second on a 3-yard pass from Brandt to Cornish with 6:18 to play in the game.
