The Siuslaw Vikings may be playing league games in Medford and Grants Pass under the most-recent districting and classification models under consideration by the Oregon School Activities Association.
The OSAA's Classification and Districting Committee for the 2018-2022 four-year time block had its third public hearing Monday, Dec. 12, in Wilsonville.
Following the meeting, the committee released a revised six-classification model, a five-classification model and a football-only model.
Under the proposed six-classification model, Siuslaw would be part of a Class 4A Far West League that includes:
Under the proposed five-classification model, Siuslaw would be part of a Class 3A Southern Cascade League that includes:
The above model would have the Vikings traveling more than 3 hours — one way — for league games in Brookings, Grants Pass and Medford, and two hours one way to Winston and Tri City.
Also under consideration is a football-only classification, with Siuslaw part of Special District 4 that includes:
Next meeting for the committee is 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the OSAA office in Wilsonville, at which time the goal is to decide on six or five classifications.
The committee will hold public testimony in the morning followed by a closed work session later in the day.
