Siuslaw senior Kyle King scored on a layup with 5 seconds to play in overtime to lift the Vikings to a 71-69 victory over the Newport Cubs in a nonleague boys basketball game Tuesday at Glenn Butler Court.

King finished with a team-high 25 points, while senior Trent Reavis added 15. Newport's Bryan Tapia had a game-high 27 points.

The Vikings, 2-1, will compete in the Les Schwab Eagle Booster Classic on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Siuslaw plays Pleasant Hill at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Junction City, then plays Harrisburg at Harrisburg at 5:45 p.m. Friday.

The Vikings complete tournament play Saturday against Colton at Junction City. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

Siuslaw follows the tournament with five home games, starting with an endowment game against Cottage Grove at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12.

King was named Coast Radio's athlete of the week on Tuesday for his play in the Vikings' first two games. ...
