3 Vikings in the hunt for consolation titles

Three of five Siuslaw Vikings boys wrestlers remain alive in the consolation round as competition gets underway Saturday at the Grants Pass Kickoff Classic.

Elijah LaCosse (138 pounds), Riley Jennings (170) and Matthew Horrillo (285) have shots at a consolation title in the two-day event, that features 233 boys from 42 schools and 97 girls from 46 schools.

LaCosse pinned Jayden Brown of Grants Pass in 2 minutes, 43 seconds, Jennings won by decision over Joey Wilson of Phoenix, 6-4, and Horrillo pinned Brian Abarca of Lost River in 4:25 Friday to advance to Saturday's rounds.

Ryan Jennings (145) and Christian Newlan (182) were eliminated Friday.

Siuslaw's three girls entries — Bailey Overton, Hayden Muller and King Bugajska — had byes into Saturday's competition.

The Siuslaw boys had 14 points through Friday and were in 24th place as a team.
