Siuslaw's four state qualifiers wrestle Friday


Siuslaw senior Riley Jennings will have the toughest first-round assignment of the four Vikings who qualified for the state wrestling championships.

Two days of all-classification action gets underway Friday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Jennings will battle the No. 2 seed at 170 pounds, while brother Ryan Jennings, a sophomore, will face the No. 4 seed at 152.

Sophomore Elijah LaCosse (126) and junior Matthew Horrillo (220) meet No. 5 seeds in their weight classes.

The first session for the Oregon School Activities Association Class 4A championships begins at 4 p.m. The 4A wrestlers will share 12 mats with wrestlers in the 5A and the 2A/1A classifications.

The first session for 6A and 3A wrestlers is 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.

  • 126 pounds — Sophomore Elijah LaCosse (30-13), unseeded, vs. Woodburn junior Freddy Hernandez (41-12), No. 5 seed; No. 1 seed is Molalla junior Maximus Tate (32-3)
  • 152 — Sophomore Ryan Jennings (19-16), unseeded, vs. Estacada junior Sam Garrison (27-9), No. 4 seed; No. 1 seed is Sweet Home junior Travis Thorpe (45-4)
  • 170 — Senior Riley Jennings (33-13), unseeded, vs. La Grande senior Grayson Livingston (42-5), No. 2 seed; No. 1 seed is Tillamook senior Caleb Werner (42-7)
  • 220 — Junior Matthew Horrillo (28-12), unseeded, vs. Madras junior Kody Zemke No. 5 seed; No. 1 seed is Banks junior James Ellis (36-1)
