Florence Littlefoots boot North Bend for title


The Florence Littlefoots accept their first-place trophies after beating North Bend in the Rookies championship game, 14-3.

The Florence Littlefoots stomped North Bend, 14-3, on Sunday to win the Rookies division title at the annual Rick & Corrine Gehlke All-Star Baseball Tournament at Miller Park.

Bats of Idaho placed third and Central (Independence) was fourth.

"All the Florence teams played well this weekend! Way to represent," Littlefoots coach Rich DeSantis said. "Super proud of my Littlefoots."

The Siuslaw Majors all-stars finished second, losing to Umpqua in the championship game, 10-0.

Siuslaw's Majors all-stars were 6-2 in the two-day tournament, with both losses to Umpqua by 10-0 scores. Siuslaw beat Reedsport 7-6, Lincoln City 8-4 and 15-6, Gold Coast 4-3, North Bend 12-8 and SET (Siletz-Eddyville-Toledo) 11-7.

SET placed third and North Bend fourth.

The Siuslaw Minors were eliminated early Sunday from trophy contention. SET defeated Umpqua in the championship game.

The Siuslaw Baseball Softball Association, which runs the tournament, will hold its annual barbecue Tuesday, honoring longtime sponsor Ray Wells.

SBSA officers include president John Meier, vice president Jeff Stinger, secretary Natalie Blankenship and treasurer Stephanie Restrepo.

Board members include Deanna Frazier, Carl Frazier, Mike Blankenship, Kim Stinger, Eric Tipler, Suzy Barstow, Sarah Mann and Tracy Aaron.
