Siuslaw advertising for paid soccer coach

The Siuslaw Vikings will have a paid soccer coach as the sport enters its second season this fall at the high school.

The position was posted Tuesday and closes 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Siuslaw will field a coed team again this season and compete at the boys junior varsity level.

Last year's team was a competitive 0-4-1, guided by volunteer coaches Nyra Campbell and Londi Tomaro, both active in the Siuslaw Youth Soccer Association.

One or both likely will apply for this year's position, which has a salary range of $4,673 to $ 5,452 for a season that starts Monday, Aug. 19, and ends Nov. 16.

This year's schedule includes road matches with all five Sky-Em League boys junior varsty teams as well as two matches with Waldport.

The Vikings will host their first-ever home match at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Miller Park, hosting Waldport.

There also are two other coaching positions posted, one for boys basketball assistant coach at the high school and one for middle school wrestling coach.

The deadline for applying for girls basketball coach at the high school was Aug. 2. The position may be filled after the start of the school year.

"Principal (Kerri) Tatum wanted to wait until all of the teaching positions were filled before we interview for the girls basketball position," athletic director Chris Johnson said via email.
