Freshman forward Yoskar Delamora scored three goals and sophomore midfielder Morgan Delle scored on a penalty kick to lift the Siuslaw Vikings to a 4-3 victory over the Elmira Falcons in a junior varsity boys soccer match Thursday at Elmira.

The coed Vikings team is off to a 2-0 start, with a date Thursday, Sept. 26, at Marist Catholic in Eugene. Match time is 4:30 p.m.

"It took a little while for the team to get used to the field, and there are definitely things we will be working on in practice next week," Siuslaw coach Londi Tomaro said.

"But overall, the team played well, played as a team and made a good showing."

Junior midfielder Jaxson Jensen assisted on all three Delamora goals. Jensen scored both goals in the season opener, a 2-1 win at Waldport.

Sophomore Kayden Lane was in goal the first half and the end of the second half. Junior Sonny Stillwell-Coverdale was goalkeeper for most of the second half.

"Each had good saves," Tomaro said. "Jerrel also had a save by heading the ball off the goal line."

Elmira jumped to a 2-0 lead, but the Vikings responded with a goal by Delamora, Delle's penalty kick and another Delamora goal to take the lead at halftime, 3-2.

The Vikings expanded the lead in the second half on Delamora's third goal of the match.

Elmira scored off a corner kick midway through the second half to cut the lead to the final score, 4-3.

NOTES

Siuslaw added a second assistant coach, Kaleena Jensen, who joins Nyra Campbell. Jensen finished her certification for the position Wednesday. …

Thursday's match was the first of five in a row against Sky-Em League boys junior varsity teams. ...
