Siuslaw boys, girls sweep NW Classic titles


Brendon Jensen's previous PR was 16:35.9 at last season's Sky-Em League championships on the same course.

Siuslaw dominated the prestigious Northwest Classic cross country meet Saturday by sweeping both the boys and girls titles in the 1A/2A/3A/4A division at Lane Community College in Eugene.

The Siuslaw boys totaled 89 points, followed by Newport with 96 and Sisters with 102.

The Lady Vikings had 102 points, followed by Tillamook with 107 and Philomath with 111.

Seniors Brendon Jensen and Hannah Rannow set the pace for their respective Vikings teams, Jensen fourth among the boys with a personal-record 16 minutes, 27.2 seconds, while Rannow was third among the girls with a season-best 18:57.1.

For the boys, freshman Samuel Ulrich continued his assent, placing 15th overall and second among the Vikings with a personal-record 17:17.1.

Junior Jaxson Jensen followed at 19th with a PR 17:28.6, senior Kiger Johnson 22nd  with a season-best 17:30.4 and freshman Kyle Hughes at 35th with a PR 17:49.6.

Senior Jared Northrop was 40th with a season-best 18:00.0 and sophomore Chad Hughes 46th with a season-best 18:13.0.

In the girls' race, Siuslaw junior Brea Blankenship was 14th in 20:47.7, sophomore Rylee Colton 30th in 21:48.9 in her season debut, junior Gracie Freudenthal 36th in 22:05.6 and senior Anne Wartnik 37th in 22:08.4.

Senior Chloe Madden, returning from injury, was 70th in 23:56.7 and senior Bryn Clement 81st in 24:50.8.

There were 185 runners in the boys' field, 149 in the girls' field.

In the middle school race, at 3,000 meters, Brayden Linton was eighth in a PR 10:53.8 to lead the Siuslaw boys to fourth place, while the girls were sixth led by Addison McNeill, who ran a PR 13:21.4 to finish 33rd overall.
