Lady Vikings finish second at Paul Mariman


Senior Anne Wartnik ran a personal-record time for 10th Saturday at the Paul Mariman Invitational.

All seven Siuslaw runners posted a season best time Saturday as the Lady Vikings finished second to top-ranked Marist Catholic at the Paul Mariman Invitational cross country meet in Philomath.

Marist Catholic was first with 37 points, followed by Siuslaw with 52 and host Philomath with 81.

Siuslaw senior Hannah Rannow finished second overall with a time of 18 minutes, 35.2 seconds. Freshman Rylee Colton was ninth in 20:01.3, senior Anne Wartnik 10th in 20:13.4, junior Brea Blankenship 13th in 20:21.1 and senior Chloe Madden 18th in 21:00.5.

Junior Gracie Freudenthal was 20th in 21:08.3 and senior Bryn Clement 40th in 22:38.0.

The times by Wartnik and Clement were personal records for 5,000 meters.

Philomath senior Hannah Hernandez was the individual winner in a season-best 18:28.8.

The Lady Vikings will compete this coming Saturday at the Warner Pacific XC Classic at Lents Park in Portland.

The final race before championship season is The Run for the Brownies, Thursday, Oct. 24, at Florence Golf Links.

The Sky-Em League Championships are Thursday, Oct. 31, and the Oregon School Athletic Association Class 4A state championships Saturday, Nov. 9, both at Lane Community College in Eugene.

GIRLS JUNIOR VARSITY

Siuslaw had two girls in the junior varsity race, with sophomore Julia Shoji 17th in 25:34.65 and freshman Haylee Cole 31st in 28:54.85.
