The Astoria Fishermen volleyball team swept the Siuslaw Vikings 3-0 Tuesday in a play-in match to the Oregon School Activities Association Class 4A state tournament.

The No. 5-ranked Fisherman beat the No. 18-ranked Lady Vikings, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19.

Siuslaw finishes its season 10-12 overall.

Astoria, 17-6, will host North Marion in a first-round match Saturday (see pairings below).

First-round winners will advance to the state quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 8, at Forest Grove High School.

Semifinals also are Nov. 8, with the championship 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.

This was the third time in four seasons that Siuslaw coach Jon Hornung has led the Lady Vikings into the postseason.

In 2016, Siuslaw (13-8 overall. 8-2 in the Far West League) shared the league title and lost at home to Tillamook in the first round, 3-0.

In 2017, Siuslaw (11-11, 5-5)  was swept in a play-in game at Cascade, 3-0.

In 2018, Siuslaw (9-11, 2-8) failed to make the playoffs in their return to the Sky-Em League.

This season, Siuslaw shared fourth place with Marist Catholic at 4-6 to qualify for a play-in match.
