The Siuslaw Vikings boys and girls showed they are headed in the right direction when they each won district cross country titles by a single point last week at Lane Community College in Eugene.

Saturday, the two highly rated teams return to the same course for a shot at state titles, the girls running at 11:45 a.m. and the boys at 12:20 p.m.

Siuslaw coach Chris Johnson expects good things.

"Both teams showed at the district meet that they are improving and were ready to put up a fight," he said.

"The state meet is always exciting. I think both teams are ready."

Athletic.net's hypothetical results have the Siuslaw boys finishing fourth behind Sisters, Philomath and Marist, and the Lady Vikings second only to Marist and well ahead of Philomath.

The Sisters boys have the top two runners by time in John Peckham and Will Thorsett, who have clocked 16:01.2 and 16:04.2, respectively, for 5,000 meters.

Siuslaw's best time is 16:27.2 by senior Brendon Jensen, with freshman Samuel Ulrich on his heels at 16:35.9. The next-best times have been posted by senior Kiger Johnson, freshman Kyle Hughes and junior Jaxson Jensen.

The girls race appears to be a Siuslaw-Marist show, with the Lady Vikings led by senior Hannah Rannow. The next-best times have been posted by sophomore Rylee Colton, juniors Brea Blankenship and Gracie Freudenthal and senior Chloe Madden.

Seniors running their last state cross country meet include Brendon Jensen, Kiger Johnson and Jared Northrop for the boys, and Hannah Rannow, Chloe Madden, Anne Wartnik and Bryn Clement for the girls.
