Siuslaw to stay at 3A for two more seasons

Several Oregon School Activities Association football teams will be changing classifications next fall, but Siuslaw is not one of them.

The OSAA's Football Ad Hoc Advisory Committee held its 11th public meeting Monday, and it was confirmed that Hidden Valley is the only school that will return to 4A in 2020.

Class 4A schools Siuslaw, Corbett and Madras will not, failing to meet a two-year winning percentage of .667 or higher or winning an OSAA title.

Hidden Valley has a two-year in-classification winning percentage of .765, Siuslaw .300, Corbett .286 and Madras .588.

Six 4A schools will have the option to play down to 3A next season, including Junction City, McLoughlin, Molalla, Philomath, Phoenix and Sisters, based on their winning percentages the past two seasons.

Junction City is at .067 (1-14) in-classification, McLoughlin at .091 (1-10), Molalla .200 (3-12), Philomath .143 (2-12), Phoenix .143 (2-12) and Sisters .214 (3-11).

The committee is assuming Junction City, Phoenix and Molalla will opt to stay in 4A, while Philomath, McLoughlin and Sisters will opt to play down.

Schools have until Dec. 2 to decide.

Siuslaw beat both Philomath and McLoughlin this past season in posting a 6-4 record, a big-time turnaround from 2018's 0-8 campaign.
