The Siuslaw Vikings soccer team's first-ever varsity match will be the home and season opener against Waldport on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Kickoff on the school's new on-campus pitch is 5:30 p.m.
"We are excited about varsity competition this year," Siuslaw coach Londi Tomaro said. "It will definitely be a challenge, but I expect our team will step up."
The Vikings' coed team will compete with Sky-Em League boys varsity teams, with the goal of fielding both boys and girls varsity teams in the future.
Siuslaw has competed as a coed team at the boys junior varsity level since the sport was added in fall 2018.
The Vikings were 6-0-2 in 2019 and 0-4-1 in 2018.
Siuslaw has played just one home match in its first two seasons, tying Waldport 3-3 last Oct. 12 on the field it shares with the junior varsity baseball team.
Tomaro is assisted by Nyra Campbell and Kaleena Jensen.
The team plans a bake sale for next month, details to come.
