5 Vikings gain semifinals at Cottage Grove


Siuslaw Vikings wrestlers Yoskar Delamora, Mason Buss, Ryan Jennings, Christian Newlan and Matthew Horrillo advanced Friday to the semifinals of the Cottage Grove Invitational.

Championship semifinals and finals are Saturday.

Delamora, the No. 2 seed at 106 pounds, pinned Gabriel Minson of North Eugene in 11 seconds and Basen Rambo of North Valley in 4 minutes, 47 seconds.

Buss, seeded No. 2 at 120, pinned Tristan Sherritt of Coquille in 22 seconds, Tagge Fry of Grants Pass in 3:15 and scored a major decision over Rieley Branson of Central Linn, 18-5.

Jennings, No. 3 at 160, beat Nick Kubishta of Creswell 11-6, Andrew Johnson of Summit 5-3 and, in a major decision, Erick Ambrosia of McKay, 10-2.

Newlan, No. 5 at 195, pinned Jayden Valentine of McKay in 2:20, Dylan Day of Central Linn in 4:00 and beat No. 4 seed Michael Dardis of Willamette in a tiebreaker-1, 6-3.

Horrillo, No. 2 at 285, pinned Rhett Edmunds of Oakridge in 1:20, Andrew Allen of South Umpqua in 1:21 and won by decision over Carson Endacott of Klamath Union, 3-0.

Siuslaw has 98 team points for eighth place in the field of 30 schools.

Siuslaw also has two athletes entered in Saturday's Cottage Grove Girls Tournament, sophomores Arrianna Brown (110) and Hayden Muller (135).
