Elmira's late free throws cost Lady Vikings

The Elmira Falcons sank seven free throws in the final minute Friday to hold off the visiting Siuslaw Vikings, 49-42, in Sky-Em League girls basketball.

The Lady Vikings, 0-9 in league and 1-22 overall, close their season Tuesday with senior recognition night in a home game against Junction City.

The Lady Vikings have six players listed as seniors on their roster — Lindsey Long, Savannah Morris, Mia Collins, Kelsey Larson, Brooklyn Cahoon and Brittany Rodriguez.

Tipoff is 5:45 p.m. at Glenn Butler Court.

Elmira improved to 3-9 and 7-15. The Lady Falcons are at Marshfield on Tuesday.

Siuslaw dug itself a 9-point hole at halftime, 28-19, and trailed by 10 entering the fourth quarter, 40-30.

The Lady Vikings rallied to within one point, 42-41, inside the final two minutes, but the Falcons were handed 10 free throws in the final minute, sinking seven.

Junior Brea Blankenship scored a team-high 19 points for Siuslaw.

Senior Ashley Feltz had a game-high 24 points for Elmira, with freshman Paige Doerr chipping in 12 points, eight from the free-throw line.

In other league games Friday, Marist Catholic defeated Marshfield, 53-38, in Coos Bay and Cottage Grove won at Junction City, 37-24.
