The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team appears ready to crash the Class 4A playoffs.

Tuesday, the Vikings turned in a strong defensive performance in the second half to defeat visiting Junction City in overtime, 43-37, on senior recognition night at Glenn Butler Court.

The Vikings, 5-5 in the Sky-Em League and 11-13 overall, play at Junction City at 7:15 p.m. Friday, with the winner playing at Marshfield on Monday for the league's No. 2 automatic qualifying berth.

All three schools still could advance as play-in teams depending on the final rankings, which freeze Tuesday, Feb. 25.

League champion Marist Catholic, 10-0 and 20-3, will head to the Oregon School Activities Association tournament as the Sky-Em League's No. 1 automatic qualifier.

Sophomore Braydon Thornton scored a game-high 14 points and helped the Vikings all but shut down the Tigers' offense in the second half.

Siuslaw, down 25-19 at halftime, outscored Junction City 8-5 in the third quarter, 8-5 again in the fourth quarter and 8-2 in overtime.

Sophomore Brody Terry added 9 points, going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final minute of overtime to ice the win.

Ben Heitz had 12 points and Riley Sangermano 11 for Junction City.

In other league games Tuesday, Marshfield beat visiting Elmira, 65-44, and Marist Catholic romped at Cottage Grove, 87-43.
