Hurley, Coday lead Siuslaw to third in state

Siuslaw's Elissa Hurley and Faith Coday finished first and third in all-star points over the weekend to lead the Lady Vikings to third place in the 2020 Oregon High School State Bowling Finals at Firebird Lanes in Salem.

Hurley was the top girls all-star with 2.0536 all-star points and Coday No. 3 with 1.9643.

Only the first five in a field of 109 female bowlers from around the state earned all-star recognition.

Sierra Combe of Hidden Valley was No. 2, Zoe Macdonald of Grants Pass No. 4 and Kari Kendrick of Cottage Grove No. 5.

Cottage Grove won the girls title, with Mazama second, Siuslaw third, Grants Pass fourth and Marshfield fifth.

Sixteen schools qualified for the state championships with top finishes in districts.

Siuslaw opened the double-elimination state tournament with a 287-267 victory over Oregon City, followed by a 355-277 loss to Marshfield.

Siuslaw beat Oregon City in Round 3, 300-277; Silverton in Round 4, 277-240, and Marshfield in Round 5, 320-310.

Siuslaw then lost to Mazama, 343-319, to take third place, while Mazama advanced into the finals, losing to Cottage Grove, 371-346.

Others competing for Siuslaw included Bailey Overton, Jessica South, Trista Torres, Winnie Zehn and MaKenna Hammerberg.

Wilsonville won the boys title, followed by North Bend, Mazama, Grants Pass and Bend. Siuslaw did not qualify.

North Bend's Rain Pryor was the top boys all-star. Other all-stars included Devan Raguine of Bend, Jace Koning of Westview, Chris Allen of Cottage Grove and Trevor Johnson of Wilsonville.
