The Siuslaw Vikings' spring schedule has lost its bloom due to the coronavirus.

"Sports contests are suspended through April 9th," superintendent Andy Grzeskowiak announced Thursday, "and are tentatively planned to resume with games and meets on April 10th."

Thursday night, it was announced schools would be closed through March 31 and practices cancelled indefinitely.

Sky-Em League baseball and softball still are scheduled to open their seasons April 14.

"There is an away track meet (at Philomath) scheduled for April 11th, and we will wait and see if the host school is capable of running the event during that week," Grzeskowiak said.

The decision follows a decision Thursday by Oregon Gov. Kay Brown to ban such gatherings for 30 days.

The OSAA cancelled all remaining winter sports championships as well as the dance-and-drill championships March 20-21 in Portland.

"All nonleague contests in the near future are cancelled, including the Siuslaw Icebreaker scheduled for next week," Grzeskowiak said.

"As further guidance comes from the state health authorities or the OSAA, the district will announce any changes to sports contests."
