Siuslaw graduate Elyssa Rose is going to celebrate her collegiate volleyball senior night this fall in Weatherford, Okla.

The former Vikings all-star is transferring to Southwestern Oklahoma State University from Concordia (Ore.), which is closing its doors this spring.

"This was perfect for me," Rose said. "I will be able to take the necessary class my senior year that I will need to get into an athletic training graduate school."

Rose (Siuslaw, Class of 2017), a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, has been a standout on the court and in the classroom in her three years at Concordia.

She has been the Cavaliers' top blocker and has been a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-academic team.

"I wanted to find a great school that would be a good fit athletically and academically," Rose said.

"The coach (John Collins) reached out to me after we got news of Concordia closing, and I got to fly out for a visit."

The Bulldogs have tied for second place the past two seasons in the NCAA Division II Great American Conference, which includes 12 schools.

Last season, the eighth under Collins, the Lady Bulldogs were 12-4 in conference and 16-12 overall.

"It felt like a perfect fit when I was playing with the team," Rose said of her visit. "I also found out all of my credits would transfer and I could graduate on time with a kinesiology degree."
