Garth Gerot has been named interim principal of Siuslaw High School for the next school year, superintendent Andy Grzeskowiak announced Thursday.

Great has served as the vice principal at Siuslaw under departing principal Kerri Tatum.

"This allows the high school to transition smoothly into the coming school year," Grzeskowiak said, "especially considering the unknown variables facing school operations as we all weather this closure period together.

"I am confident Mr. Gerot will be able to continue the excellent efforts made in serving the students in this community, and push forward with the staff leadership team to further the primary goal of the district: Motivating and preparing all students to reach their greatest potential."

The district will be advertising soon for an assistant principal, Grzeskowiak said.

Gerot was hired as assistant principal at Siuslaw in 2017.

Gerot is a former principal at Willamette Leadership Academy in Springfield, and has taught language arts to grades 6-12.

"I really want to make the student's current learning relevant to their long-term goals, and prepare them to take the next step to whatever it may be," Gerot told the Siuslaw News in 2017.

"I want to help set them up so they can really follow their passion and put positive energy into what they are doing."
