By Chris Johnson, SHS athletic director
Hello Siuslaw High School Families:
Siuslaw High School will start conducting voluntary off-season workouts beginning September 21 which falls in OSAA Season 1. We will follow all ODE, OSAA and OHA regulations for gatherings.
Because pods are limited to 1 coach and 10 athletes, and because we have so many multi-sport athletes, it is virtually logistically impossible to run seasons concurrently. With that in mind, we have made the decision to divide Season 1 into three separate mini-seasons.
They will run as follows:
Fall Sports: 9/21-10/23
Spring Sports: 10/26-11/27
Winter Sports: 11:30-12/25
If there are student athletes who are only involved in one sport per year, coaches can still meet with those kids out-of-season. Athletes cannot participate in more than one activity per mini-season.
Regarding athletic eligibility, regardless of how students are planning their course of study in this pandemic-altered school year, they still have to be fully enrolled in school, have passed five (5) classes the previous semester and be on track to graduate to be eligible.
Also, if kids graduate early, they are no longer eligible for high school sports.
If you have questions please call Athletic Director Chris Johnson at the high school at (541) 997-3448 or contact by e-mail at email@example.com.
Also, feel free to reach out to head coaches directly via e-mail.
Deadline for candidates 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.
Siltcoos and Tahkenitch lakes (Florence area) are still some of the best warmwater fishing opportunities.
Recent Oregon graduate Cody Kiesling succeeds Chris Rowbotham.
Team six games up with three playing dates and six games remaining.
