The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team pushed the host Cottage Grove Lions to the limit Tuesday before falling in five sets in their Sky-Em League match.
The Lady Lions won 25-19, 23-25, 25-14, 19-25, 15-12.
The Lady Vikings, 1-3 overall and in league, play at Marist Catholic on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
Cottage Grove improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in league.
Siuslaw took early leads in the fifth set at 1-0, 3-2 and 4-3. But the Lions never looked back after taking the lead 5-4, though the Lady Vikings continued to nip at their heals.
The Lady Vikings forced a fifth set with decisive win in the fourth set, building a seven-point lead, 15-8, and coasting to the win.
The Lady Lions dominated the third set late, breaking away from a 13-all tie to outscore Siuslaw 12-3 for the win.
Siuslaw won the second set with a late run of nine points. Cottage Grove won the opening set with a finishing 12-4 run.
Statistics for the game were not available, but junior libero Hayden Muller had a solid match on defense and serving.
