Vikings manhandle Harrisburg for first win


Senior quarterback Elijah Blankenship threw five touchdown passes in the first half as the Siuslaw Vikings rolled to a 58-12 victory over the host Harrisburg Eagles in 3A football Friday.

Junior Beau Erickson played the second half at quarterback for the Vikings, engineering touchdown drives of 64 and 65 yards.

Siuslaw, 1-2, plays its final two regular-season games at home, Friday against Sisters and the following Friday against Junction City.

Harrisburg, which suited 17 players for the game, fell to 0-3. The Eagles have been outscored 135-18 this season.

Junior Camp Lacouture scored 24 points for the Vikings, 12 on a pair of TD receptions, 6 on a return of a Harrisburg fumble and 6 on point-after kicks.

Junior Braydon Thornton had 20 points on three TD receptions and a 2-point conversion run.

Blankenship had three TD passes in the first quarter, 40 yards to Thornton, 20 to Lacouture and 1 to Thornton.

Blankenship added two more TD passes in the second quarter, 30 yards to Lacouture and 27 to Thornton.

Junior running back Hunter Petterson scored both of Siuslaw's second-half touchdowns on runs of 1 yard in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth.

Senior quarterback Chase Gallegos scored all 12 Eagles points on a pair of 5-yard TD runs, the first in the second quarter and the last as running time elapsed in the fourth quarter.

In other 3A Special District 2 North games, Santiam Christian lashed visiting La Pine, 50-22, and Junction City visited Pleasant Hill. Sisters lost a nonleague game at Sweet Home, 36-6.
